Camp vs Carnaval

Every year Brazil celebrates Carnaval (same as Mardi Gras). It is the most wicked time of the year and is celebrated throughout the entire country. The largest celebrations are held in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro. It's basically a 5-day party where anything goes. The most unimaginable things happen during Carnaval. The Catholic priests even encourage people to be "safe" and pass out condoms.

That being said, the Nichols run a camp during Carnaval each year. It is such a blessing for the people to be able to get away from the city and the events of Carnaval. Other churches also come. This year, we had the biggest turnout ever - about 125! The preaching was good, the food was good, the weather was good, and everyone had a great time!

What a fantastic idea! A great way to offer a get-a-way from the over whelming evil Carnaval. It's here too, but I'm not sure if it's as huge as in Brazil.

Looks like you all had a great time.

What a blessing...It is such a great idea to give people a better option than participating in the wickedness that can occurr during carnaval...they do it here too in Spain but I dont think it is anywhere close to being as big as in Brazil!

Hi, Ingrid, I am another Baptist missionary wife in Spain. I just found your page through your comment on Nina´s blog. How exciting to know another missionary wife.

I was going to comment about the same as Nina. It sounds like such a great idea to have a camp/retreat. You can check out my blog to see what the Gijónes people did here in N. Spain. I think it gets worse but we have not found out about that part.

I will look forward to following your blog.

In Christ,
